Beyond China: UAE emerges as a major force in Africa’s ports and logistics

When discussions turn to foreign influence in Africa, Chinese investment often dominates the conversation. But the United Arab Emirates is steadily cementing its presence across the continent.

A recent map highlights 25 ports and logistics hubs in Africa managed by DP World and AD Ports Group. Notably, it even omits Algeria’s Djen Djen port, highlighting how quickly their network is expanding.

In just two decades, DP World was established in 2005, the UAE has built a strategic footprint that rivals other global powers. And Africa is just one chapter: worldwide, DP World and AD Ports operate more than 60 ports and logistics hubs.

The message is clear: while China remains a key player, Africa’s economic landscape is also being reshaped by emerging competitors. The world is becoming increasingly interconnected, and new players are emerging rapidly.
